In Australia, there are different types of visas that parents can apply for, depending on their individual circumstances and eligibility criteria. Some of the common types of parent visas in Australia are:

Contributory Parent (Temporary) Visa (subclass 173)

This visa allows parents to live in Australia for up to two years, during which they can apply for the permanent Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143). Applicants must have a child who is an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen to be eligible for this visa. You must meet the balance-of-family test.

Contributory Parent Visa (subclass 143)

This is a permanent visa for parents who have an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen child. This visa requires a significant financial contribution and has a higher processing time than other parent visas. You must meet the balance-of-family test.

You can apply for the subclass 143 visa as a two-step process by first applying for a Contributory Parent (Temporary) (subclass 173) visa. Applying for the subclass 173 visa and then the subclass 143 visa allows you to spread the cost of the visas over a number of years. You have already met the balance of family test.

Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) visa (subclass 884)

You must have an eligible child who is a settled Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen. You must be old enough to receive the Australian aged pension and meet the balance-of-family test. Once granted you can apply for the permanent Aged Parent Visa (subclass 864)

Aged Parent Visa (subclass 864)

This is a permanent visa for parents who have an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen child. This visa subclass required the applicant to meet certain age and other requirements.

You can apply for the permanent subclass 864 visa as a two-step process by first applying for a Contributory Aged Parent (Temporary) subclass 884 visa. Applying for the subclass 884 visa and then the subclass 864 visa allows you to spread the cost of the visas over a number of years.

Parent Visa (subclass 103)

This is a permanent visa for parents who have an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen child. This visa has a lower processing priority than the Contributory Parent visas and requires a significant waiting period. You must meet the balance-of-family test.

Aged Parent Visa (subclass 804)

This is a permanent visa for parents who are of retirement age and have an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen child living in Australia. The processing time for this visa can be long. You must meet the balance-of-family test.

The Sponsored Parent (Temporary) Visa (subclass 870)

Its a temporary visa that allows parents to visit their children and grandchildren in Australia for a period of up to three or five years. This visa is intended for parents who do not qualify for permanent parent visas and who wish to stay in Australia for a longer period of time than allowed by a regular tourist visa. There is no balance of family test or Assurance of Support requirements for this visa.

To be eligible for this visa, the applicant must be the parent of an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen who has sponsored them. The sponsor must be an approved sponsor, and they must agree to provide financial support for the duration of the visit, as well as provide health insurance for the applicant. It is important to note that this visa does not lead to permanent residency or citizenship, and the applicant must leave Australia at the end of the visa duration.
